The current partnership with Çekrezi Metal LTD aims to provide employment opportunities for young people from marginalized groups through the use of electronic solutions and an innovative business model in the collection and recycling of metal waste.

The initiative focuses on supporting the development and integration of electronic solutions within the metal collection and recycling sector. In Albania, a significant portion of the workforce in this industry comes from marginalized communities, particularly Roma and Egyptian groups, often originating from economically disadvantaged areas.

Despite the sector’s importance, only 17% of total waste is currently recycled, leaving 83% untreated. A key gap exists in the handling of scrap metal generated at the household level, which is largely uncollected or improperly disposed of, often mixed with general waste and processed outside regulatory frameworks.

By addressing this gap, the partnership aims to improve both economic outcomes and working conditions for these communities. At the same time, it promotes the adoption of technology-driven solutions that can modernize the sector, increase efficiency, and ensure better compliance with environmental standards.
