Electronic solutions and employment opportunities for marginalized groups

The current partnership with Çekrezi Metal LTD aims to provide job possibilities for young people from marginalized groups by using electronic solutions and a new business model in the collection and recycling of metal trash.

Supporting the development of electronic solutions in the metal collection and recycling industry is the initiative’s goal. The majority of workers in Albania’s metal collection and recycling industry currently come from outlying regions or marginalized communities, like the Roma and Egyptian communities.

However, these businesses only recycle 17% of the waste that is produced, leaving the remaining 83% untreated. Regarding scrap metals produced at the individual household level, there is a market gap that the sector is not currently filling. Additionally, this waste is typically combined with other home waste and is not handled in accordance with laws and regulations.

Given that these groups make up the majority of the workforce in this industry, the partnership seeks to enhance financial benefits for them as well as working conditions and employment opportunities for them. It also supports the use of solution-model electronics in the collection of metal waste.
